Our Doctors

Dr. Duane Schnittker

Dr. SchnittkerDr. Duane Schnittker received his veterinary degree in 1974 from Kansas State University. In the next five years, Dr. Schnittker practiced in Thousand Oaks, California, Colorado Springs, Colorado and Stockton, California. After settling in Brentwood in 1979, Dr. Schnittker engaged in a combined small and large animal practice for the next thirteen years. At that time Brentwood Veterinary Hospital had only one employee. After expanding into the current hospital in 1990, Brentwood Veterinary Hospital decided to drop the mixed practice concept and focus on small animal pets. Although large animal practice was enjoyable, Dr. Schnittker reasoned that you can’t be in two places at the same time. Since that time, Dr. Schnittker, along with many new doctors and staff members, has concentrated on improving the lives of our smaller patients.

Dr. Schnittker and his wife Sue raised two beautiful daughters in the community and recently become grandparents. Sue has been teaching kindergarten for over 20 years at Brentwood Elementary School.

Dr. Schnittker's interests outside of the practice and his family include golf, riding his tandem bicycle and traveling.

Dr. Schnittker really enjoys meeting new clients, as well as serving those he has known for almost thirty years.

Dr. Thomas Odom

Dr. OdomDr. Thomas Odom has been with Brentwood Veterinary Hospital since 2000. Dr Odom is a native of northern Virginia. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and completed his DVM at the University of Tennessee in 1999. He completed an internship at VCA Sacramento Area Medical Group, a large emergency and referral center, in 2000. His professional interests include immunology and infectious disease.

Dr. Odom is a rabid baseball fan and can usually be found behind 3rd base at the A's games. He lives in Brentwood with his wife, children, and an overly flatulent Labrador.

Dr. Cory Sims

Dr. SimsAfter two undergraduate degrees and a previous career in public affairs, Dr. Cory Sims received her DVM degree from the University of Minnesota, St. Paul in 2003. She loves practicing veterinary medicine, and is constantly surprised, challenged and fascinated by the cases she sees every day. She is particularly interested in clinical pathology, soft-tissue surgery, and infectious disease, but enjoys working with a variety of patients. She finds it particularly satisfying to help the large number of senior and geriatric dogs and cats that they see, because so often they can make a real difference in their comfort and quality of life. Of course, she feels that the very best part of her job is working with the tremendously talented & dedicated staff at Brentwood Veterinary Hospital. She feels so lucky to be surrounded by so many compassionate, hard-working people.

Raised in Southern California, Dr. Cory Sims moved to Brentwood in 2004 and she absolutely loves it. She lives here with her husband, Troy, her stepson, Travis, and her son, Collin. She also has three wonderful dogs and two rather entitled cats. Her plans for the near future include a much-anticipated family trip; and someday she'd love to remember what it’s like to sit down and read a book cover-to-cover uninterrupted! As part of her goal to never stop learning, she also hopes to earn certification by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, which is a sort of "advanced training" program for general practitioners in veterinary medicine.

Dr. Amy Olsen

Dr. OlsenDr. Amy Olsen joined Brentwood Veterinary Hospital in 2006. Born and raised in Arizona, Dr. Olsen migrated toward the coast to attend school and is a graduate of UC Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine. Prior to that, she received her undergraduate degree in Microbiology from the University of Arizona in Tucson. Go Wildcats!

After spending much of her time at Davis working with both horses and small animals Dr. Olsen has found her major areas of interest include ultrasound, surgery and orthopedic disease, and anything related to the German Shepherd.

Outside the hospital Dr. Olsen can usually be found enjoying either the snow or sun of Lake Tahoe as she enjoys snowboarding and wakeboarding. Currently, she resides in Walnut Creek with her dogs Ripley, a beautiful German Shepherd and Gator, a bouncing Yellow Lab.

Dr. Debbie Sharp

Dr. SharpDr. Debbie Sharp was born and raised in Santa Barbara, California. She decided to become a veterinarian when she was 12 years old and her horse required surgery. Her veterinarian let her be the assistant during surgery and from that day on she was hooked. She graduated from Cal Poly with a BS in Animal Science in 1992 and Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1996.

Her family has lived in Brentwood and she has worked at the Brentwood Veterinary Hospital for 12 years. Her husband, Brian, sells real estate and owns Sharp Realty. They have four children - Austin 8, Megan 5 and her twins, Brandon and Brianna are almost three years old. She and her family enjoy riding horses, roping, swimming, water skiing, camping, and just about anything outside. She can't imagine life without being a veterinarian and a mom; they are two of the best jobs in the world.

Dr. Megan Bergin

Dr. BerginDr. Megan Bergin is a recent graduate of the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, and enjoyed studying all types of animals at school, but is looking forward to being able to focus on dogs, cats, and pet exotics in practice. Dr. Bergin lives in Lodi with her fiancé Jason, Nanook the cat, and Panda the rabbit. Dr. Bergin and Jason have plans to have a small wedding this fall, and are looking forward to house-hunting in Brentwood at the end of the year.

Dr. Bergin is a 1998 graduate of Acalanes High School in Lafayette, and she still has family in the area. Megan completed her Bachelor of Science in Animal Physiology & Neuroscience at UC San Diego, and also earned a NCAA All-American Award in Track & Field while at UCSD. Her other hobbies include visiting Disneyland as often as possible, movies, video games, and puzzles & board games. Megan can't wait to establish great relationships in the community, so come by and say hello!
